Ok, now that is out of the way.  Our learning curve was steep and bumpy!  But, we now have a healthy, thriving herd of goats that we care for deeply.

Know what is normal for the goat.

Normal health signs of goats:

o Pulse rate = 70 - 80 beats per minute
o Respiration =15 to 30 per minute
o Rumen movements = 1 - 1.5 per minute
o Puberty = 2 - 8 months (remove bucks from does at 2 month)
o Estrus Cycle = 17 to 23 days
o Gestation = 143 to 155 days
o Lifespan, does and wethers = 11 - 12 years average (I have heard of some goats living to be 17-20)
o Lifespan, bucks = 8 average
o Most goats do not reach their full size until they are about three years of age. (They keep growing for about three years).
