Why Tattoo?

Identifying your goats is an important piece when your herd management is considered.  In the beginning, it can be pretty easy to "know" your goats.  You can identify them by sight, know in your mind who the dam and sire are etc.  But, as the herd multiplies, and gets larger, it gets harder and harder to do. 

Tags, microchips and tattoos all have a function in identifying the livestock. 

Tags are easy to see at a distance. 

Microchips and tattoos can not be seen from a distance.

Tags can be lost or removed.

Microchips and tattoos can not.
